The Downtown State College Improvement District warmly welcomes Elixr Coffee Roasters to West Beaver Avenue!
Replacing the beloved Saint’s coffee shop is certainly a high order, but Elixr manager and State College local Christine Hughes is up to the task. A Penn State graduate, Hughes remarks that her return to State College is “a very full circle moment.”
“I always wanted to work at Saint’s forever in college. I really just loved the coffee scene and loved coming here,” said Hughes. “It’s been really awesome to take it over.”
The West Beaver Avenue store marks one of six locations, with storefronts in Philadelphia and Nashville.
In addition to an array of handcrafted drinks, a variety of baked goods are also available with a focus on locally sourced pastries. “We’re getting our croissants from The Cakeshop by Tati in Pleasant Gap,” Hughes noted. “ We’re also looking for more local things, with new stuff coming soon.”
Between early mornings and late night study sessions, it’s no secret that college students consume copious amounts of coffee with no qualms. Starbucks reigns superior with five nearby locations on and off the University Park campus. Despite this, local coffee shops including Vibe, Crust & Crumb and Elixr continue to thrive. Hughes encourages students and locals alike to shop small and opt for a more local brew.
“I think we have a lot of fun drinks that the Starbucks drinker would like… Some special lattes like a strawberry milk latte, and a couple of others that I think can please those people as well.”
The shop is open every day from 7-6 p.m. Stop by to support local business in the heart of downtown State College.
