October and November in State College brings great weather, beautiful colors, and warm fall vibes.

We are spending our fall season sending you on a Scavenger Hunt throughout Downtown State College. Downtown is covered in art, hidden in the alleys and side streets of the area.

The first stop features State College’s newest mural. The painting, created by Emily Cooper, features an octopus. The vibrant sea creature holds a variety of items. All these items have to do with the community, making references to certain businesses and areas throughout the present and past of State College, including:

    • The Corner Room Sign
      • The first arm features this sign, home to the famous Grilled Stickies. The Corner Room is one of the many restaurants on W College Ave, serving a variety of breakfast and lunch options.
    • A Football
      • State College has many visitors, especially during the football season. This item highlights the Penn State football team.
    • Popcorn Bucket and Theatre
      • Within the next hand, there is a nod to the State Theatre. Found on W College Ave, the State Theatre brings a variety of entertainment to the community. Movie showings, guest speakers, and live performances are available throughout the year. For more information on showtimes, visit the State Theatre website.
    • Ice Cream Cone
      • If you speak to any Penn State alumni, and most State College residents, you will hear all about how Berkey Creamery is the best place for ice cream. Located on Penn State’s campus, Berkey Creamery is a staple for any Penn Stater. You should grab a scoop of ice cream after you finish the scavenger hunt.
    • The Tavern Restaurant Sign
      • The Tavern is another State College classic. Located next to the Corner Room, the Tavern is a dinner spot on State College’s main road.
    • Treasure Island and a Schlow Library Card
      • The last items featured in this mural represents Schlow Library. On S Allen Street, the library provides many opportunity for fun and creativity for the youth of State College.

Along with Cooper’s mural, your next location has a new window painting outside one of the area’s Dunkin locations. This painting features the infamous Penn State mascot, the Nittany Lion.

Another one of the murals highlighted in the scavenger hunt will be a bit hidden. Created in 2002, this mural is available to be found in one of the smaller roads, featuring drawings of an older town, with a horse as a feature of the drawing.

Your last destination showcases a different form of art. This mosaic is made of glass, forming into a wave above this beauty-based business.
