We invite you to experience the magic of First Night on December 31st. The fun takes place in and around downtown State College.
The tradition of ice sculptures and Giant Ice Walls will be back at this year’s First Night. The art is located in front of downtown businesses, on the Mayor Welch Plaza, and in Sidney Friedman Park.
Come with resolutions for 2016. First Night is providing many exhibits and sculptures that allow citizens to begin the New Year with a “clean slate.” Some include creating a bucket list at the Schlow Centre Region Library and spinning the “wheel of fate” at the Mayor Welch Plaza.
Secure your First Night button online or at area merchants for $10 apiece. (Use this as your ticket to gain access to about 50 performances downtown.) There’s something for all to enjoy. Acts include Adam Ace, Peter Gross and Evan Young. Adam Ace is a professional comedian that will be located in the State Theatre at 3:30, 7:30, & 10 p.m. Since 1997, he has performed in 49 of the 50 states sharing his jokes with others. Peter Gross will be at the Penn State Downtown Theatre at 4:30, 7 and 9 p.m. He’s proven to be a great magician and comedian through his 30 years of experience. Instead of going to college, Evan Young went to circus school in Europe. Many believe that he should’ve worked for National Geographic due to the amazing photos he takes. His shows present originality as well as comedy. He will be at the State College Municipal Building Community Room at 5, 6:45 and 9:30 p.m.
As an added bonus, anyone wearing a First Night button will receive free admission to the Lady Lions basketball game against Northwestern. The game begins at 2 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Sign up for the 5k Resolution Run. Make the experience even better in one of your favorite costumes! Looking for more? Take the CATA white loop up to Pegula Ice Arena and skate until your legs give out.
Enjoy a carriage ride through downtown State College. This is a unique way to enjoy the town and see all that it has to offer.
Staying the night? First Night packages will be available at a couple of the State College Hotels.
