The Shandygaff, or the Gaff as it is affectionately known, is one of the oldest bars in town. So old, that no one really knows the actual origins anymore. If you’ve ever frequented the Gaff, you may have noticed the staff shirts adorned with the GAFF1848 logo. The most popular story is the Gaff opened sometime in 1848, seven full years before the university. Of course its current location wasn’t the original.
Another popular story is that the founder was in Ireland and loved a bar there so much that he opened his own Gaff here in the States.
Regardless, gathering a crowd Tuesday through Saturday, the Gaff is undoubtedly one of most unique bars in town. Whether you’re indulging in one of our famous liquor pitchers, dancing the night away on the dance floor, or taking part in a rigorous game of foosball, the Gaff provides everyone with a sociable atmosphere guaranteed to please.
