Taking place on the second to the last Sunday afternoon of the month at Tempest Studio, 140 Kelly Alley in State College, the first film is Guy Maddin’s Dracula: Pages from a Virgin’s Diary. Hailed as “exquisitely beautiful!” by Dennis Dermody of PAPER Magazine, this film transposes the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s interpretation of Bram Stoker’s gothic vampire tale from stage to screen. Critically acclaimed cult auteur, Guy Maddin, has created a ravishing cinematic feast of gorgeous dance, interlaced with drama and silent-film shadows. The film will be screened Sunday, Jan. 22 at 4:00-5:30 p.m. at VanDance’s new home in downtown State College, Tempest Studio, 140 Kelly Alley (under the Fraser Street parking garage). Originally scheduled in November, this screening was postponed out of an abundance of caution due to some Covid-19 cases in the company at that time. Sunday afternoon parking in the borough lot and on the street is free. There is no cost to attend the event, but a $5 donation is recommended.
