Experience the cool vibe of downtown State College during our monthly First Friday events. A casual atmosphere features art, people-watching, mingling with friends, shopping, and dining at the diverse and delectable State College restaurants. First Friday goers will experience after-hours access to galleries and shops, free bites and beverages, live music, retail and restaurant specials, and more. We’re Going on a Bat Hunt!

The Bat Hunt kicks off on First Friday! To get started, stop in any of the Bat Hunt locations and pick up a Bat Hunt Passport. Find the bat in each participating location, and ask an employee for a sticker. Bring your completed Passport with all 15 stickers by November 1 to the Downtown Improvement District Office (127 S Fraser St), and you’ll be entered to win a $100 Downtown Gift Card! Five of the 15 Bat Hunt locations are participating in First Friday, so this is a great opportunity to get a head start!

First Friday at Woskob Family Gallery

Stop by the Woskob Family Gallery during First Friday and see two exhibits: a window installation by Naomi Reis, Talisman for Unknown Territories, and a new mural in the downstairs gallery by Marian Bailey, patterns of a life.

From 6-7 pm, the Gallery will run a Zine-making workshop! Zines (pronounced “zeens”) are small, DIY publications (small booklets) which celebrate the underground, the niche, the alternative, and instructive. Using a wide variety of materials, we will be crafting zines and filling them with images, text, and content of your choice. Experience with book-making (or art in general) is not necessary — folks of all ages and experience levels are welcome to join in the fun!

THE CENTRE FILM FESTIVAL PARTNERS WITH THE STATE THEATRE FOR THE FRIDAY SILENT FILM SERIES: Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché

BE NATURAL: THE UNTOLD STORY OF ALICE GUY BLACHE, narrated by Jodi Foster, won a Best Documentary award at the 2019 Centre Film Festival. Come join us for a free screening of a film that tells the untold story of Alice, a creative force, entrepreneur, leader, and mentor in a new field that she helped pioneer. She directed her first film in 1896. This film is a celebration of a woman who was there at the beginning of the moving pictures, at the intersection of innovation, technology, and storytelling that later became the entertainment industry as we know it today.

In the Attic – ENTRELAZAO PRESENTS: Serenata Llanera

Experience the soft and vibrant sounds of Jaime Castillo’s South American folk harp intertwined with Ady Martinez on Cuatro/Voice, and Urie Kline’s percussion instruments to produce traditional syncopated rhythms of Colombia and Venezuela. Fascinating fusion of Joropo and Latin crossover jazz.
