Experience the cool vibe of downtown State College during our monthly First Friday events. A casual atmosphere features art, people-watching, mingling with friends, shopping, and dining at the diverse and delectable State College restaurants. First Friday goers will experience after-hours access to galleries and shops, free bites and beverages, live music and entertainment, retail and restaurant specials, and more. And there’s free parking in the Pugh, Fraser and Beaver garages with validations from participating merchants. Visit FirstFridayStateCollege.com for all the details.
Experiences include:
- Guided Historic Building Tour featuring six downtown buildings. Tour Leaves the info booth in front of Schlow Library at 6:30 p.m. and lasts approximately 30 minutes.
- Downtown Art Walk Tour hosted by Mayor Goreham. Tour leaves the info booth in front of the Schlow Library at 5:30 p.m. and lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Make your own glass coaster at The Makery’s Coasters and Cocktails event.
- Make and Mingle event at The Makery, 7-9 p.m. I.F. Studios invites you to explore glass fusion by creating your own unique coaster. Also, enjoy music by local mandolin legend Kevin Briggs, food and drinks at this Coasters and Cocktails event. Cost $30 per person. Register at themakerypa.com.
- Webster’s Bookstore and Café will host a book signing with Carrie Ann Noble, winner of the 2014 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award for Young Adult Fiction. At 5 p.m., she will read the first chapter of her novel, “The Mermaid’s Sister.” Following the reading, she will stay to sign books and chat until 7 p.m.
- The Fraser Street Gallery presents the “Wild” art exhibition from 6:30-9 p.m. There will be an opening reception by musical guest, Stacey Glen Tibbetts from 6:45-8 p.m.
- Richard Benninghoff will be roaming the streets and providing close up magic for your entertainment.
- Belly Dancing by Pepper Lotus Tribe at Kaarma, 7 p.m.
- Tempest Productions presents “La Scaffetta” in The Attic for $22 per person, 7:30 p.m.
- Magician Fred lobst will be providing Street Magic and Exceptional Entertainment
- Soul Dance at Lila Yoga Studio, 7-9 p.m.
- Complimentary Vamos Lion Chariot pedicab rides, sponsored by the Downtown Improvement District, 5-9 p.m.
- Discounted feature items at participating retailers
- Drop in between 5-8 p.m. at Discovery Space for science explorations with the family. Admission is half-off at $3 per person. Children under the age of 2 are always free.
- Light refreshments and entertainment throughout the downtown area
