The Nittany Valley Writers Network will meet on Tuesday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m., in the Schlow Library Community Room, 211 S. Allen St., State College. Guest speaker Michele Mekel will share her “P’s of Poetry Publication” with members and guests. The event is free and open to the public.

A poet by avocation, Mekel is interim director of the Penn State Bioethics Program, an associate teaching professor of bioethics and the humanities, and affiliate faculty with the Rock Ethics Institute, Penn State Law, and the Humanities Department at the Penn State College of Medicine. Her poetry has been featured on Garrison Keillor’s The Writer’s Almanac, nominated for Best of the Net, and translated into Cherokee. She served as co-principal investigator for the Viral Imaginations: COVID-19 project (viralimaginations.psu.edu). In addition, Mekel recently had a poetry chapbook published, Under a Quiet Moon.
