Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s Emilia, April 11-22, Pavilion Theatre:

Based on the life of English Renaissance writer, Emilia Bassano Lanier, her story is our story. Stand up and be counted in Penn State Centre Stage’s Emilia, April 11–22, at the Pavilion Theatre.

Emilia tells the story Emilia Bassano Lanier, a writer of radical feminist poetry who lived during the English Renaissance period in Bishopsgate, London. There is little known about Emilia, though history indicates her works are one of the first published collections of poetry written by a woman in England. Historians speculate that Emilia may be the “Dark Lady” of William Shakespeare’s sonnets– and the rest of HerStory has been erased by History.
