“What is the Common Good, and Should We Always Promote It?”

The Paterno Fellows Program in the College of the Liberal Arts will hold its inaugural forum, “Paterno Fellows Forum: A Discussion Place of Ideas,” at 7 p.m. on March 27 in Foster Auditorium, 102 Paterno Library.
Each participant will make his or her case about the following question: What is the common good, and should we always promote it? A discussion will follow, and audience members will get to vote on their position by smartphone before, during and after the discussion.
The following students and faculty will participate:
- Brendan Bernicker, Penn State class of 2019, Paterno Fellow, philosophy and political science
- Jeremy Engels, Sherwin Early Career Professor in the Rock Ethics Institute, and associate professor, communication arts and sciences
- Michele Kennerly, assistant professor, communication arts and sciences, and classics and ancient Mediterranean studies
- Emily Kohlman, Penn State class of 2018, Paterno Fellow, Russian and journalism
- Jonathan Marks, associate professor, bioethics, humanities and law, and philosophy
- Mark Sentesy, assistant professor, philosophy, and classics and ancient Mediterranean studies
- Daniel Zahn, Penn State class of 2020, Paterno Fellow, English, philosophy, and communication arts and sciences
The event will be moderated by Christopher Moore, assistant professor, philosophy, and classics and ancient Mediterranean studies.
All are invited to stay for a reception in Mann Assembly Room immediately following the presentation.
The Paterno Fellows Program is offered jointly by the College of the Liberal Arts and the Schreyer Honors College. As Paterno Fellows, Liberal Arts students must meet additional qualifications. They enrich their time at Penn State by completing a second major or an enhanced minor, fulfilling ethics, leadership and global awareness requirements and partaking in a study abroad or internship experience.
