Mother’s Day is next month on Sunday, May 12th and it is NEVER too early to start your planning! For all that our moms do for us, definitely take some time to make her day special. Here are a few ideas to get you started on what to do, what to buy and what to eat in Downtown State College.

What to Do:

Crafts, Ceramic, Pottery

In my experience, moms love spending time with their family on Mother’s Day more than anything else. Take her to 2000 Degrees for pottery decorating or to The Makery for an open studio. If she prefers to stay in, you can create art together at home with supplies from Uncle Eli’s Artist Marketplace. You could also buy tickets to see Voices, a play at The State Theatre that tells the story of five strangers, each trying to find her own voice. Or, pamper her with a Mother-Daughter massage appointment at Perfect 10 & More Day Spa. Moms love to be spoiled, too.

What to Buy:

Wine Bottle and Graypes

Staple Mother’s Day Gifts: flowers, wine, jewelry and memories. They never get old. With that in mind, be sure to visit Avant Garden or Woodring’s Floral Gardens well ahead of time so they can process your order and have it ready for the big day! Stop by McLanahan’s Downtown Market for a bottle (or two) of wine and then Reini Goldsmiths and Jewelers for an accessory to match. To tie a personal bow on your Mother’s Day gift-giving, custom frame her favorite family photos at Old Main Frame Shop.

What to Eat:

Yellow and Red Flower on Clear Glass Flower Vase Beside Brown Steel Tray With Pastry

Whether your mom’s name is Juana, Mia, Rita or something else, honor her picking up the bill at one of these downtown eateries. Enjoy Breakfast at Sadie’s Waffles on South Pugh Street, named for Sadie Dupont, “a delightful, energetic woman” with extensive knowledge of Belgian culinary specialties. Grab a Venezuelan lunch at Juana’s next. After immigrating to the States, Ady Martinez opened the casual restaurant as a tribute to her grandmother. For dinner, visit Mamma Mia’s Pizza for some authentic Italian cuisine and swing by Rita’s Ice for a light dessert afterwards.

There is so much available in Downtown State College to help you make your mom feel special. We hope you enjoy the time spent together and wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day!
