Beauty comes in many shapes and sizes, making it difficult for any one store to be the go-to place for everyone. NU Beauty defies that difficulty, ensuring enough variety for close to everyone in State College. Now, they’ll be moving from the Nittany Mall to Calder Way to give the same beautiful diversity to downtown State College.

As a State College local, Callie Turner has always felt the importance of providing beauty options to all people. As a young black beautician raised in central Pennsylvania, her beauty options were slim when she officially decided to create a movement all her own.

With a hairstylist for a mother, falling into this business was easy for Callie, as the avenue was wide open, understanding it was “something State College really needs.” Even with the benefits the Nittany Mall provides, Callie wisely states, “You have to grow with your business,” which has now led her to the new Calder Way location. “You have to evolve with the times,” she continued, adding that an immense benefit of downtown is, “I’ll be able to reach a lot more people, especially college students.”

After years of working in the beauty and hair business, Callie’s determined to step out from the crowd to reach every generation. She and the incoming staff are continuously updating their widening array of skills and will always be adding new things to the business as they inevitably grow. “I love to connect with people,” Callie admitted, sharing that her focus is to create a “place where people can feel pampered.”

“We want to have fun,” said Callie, doing everything she can to create an environment that feels freeing to anyone walking in. Offering services ranging from eyelash extensions to full body waxes, NU Beauty raises the bar to build a space where anyone can come and get the pampering they deserve, allowing everyone’s inner beauty to shine brighter than they ever imagined.

As one of the few black female business moguls in our area, Callie’s here to make a statement, so keep your eyes out for NU Beauty’s new storefront at 419 E. Calder Way. They’ll be taking appointments and walk-ins starting Friday, March 15th, from 9am – 7pm, and they’re excited to host their grand opening event on Sunday, March 17th, from 3pm – 6pm.

In the meantime, you can book your NU Beauty appointment online via their website, and don’t forget to show them your support by following them on Instagram.
