August First Friday Recap

Weren’t able to make it to August First Friday? We’ll fill you in on what happened. It was a lively, fun day for the whole family!

Nicole Packard, a local artist and art educator, had her art opening reception at the Downtown State College Improvement District. There was also appetizers and Keewaydin Cider provided by Otto’s Pub & Brewery while people enjoyed Nicole Packard‘s abstract paintings. Much of her artwork deals with the idea of mapping, and often these maps are of information not easily quantified, like memories or imagined worlds. Her ideas fuel her acrylic paintings, which often combine cellular biology with imagined outer space galaxies, and her pieces are still up for sale!

There was also an opening reception of The Tribute Show at The Art Alliance Gallery Downtown with appetizers & wine tastings by Mount Nittany Winery!

The Expect More Store presented the work of local photographer Chuck Fong with his photographs on display along with cheeses, wine, and beer to enjoy courtesy of 814 Cider Works. For more than twenty years, Fong’s experience has provided the Centre region with fine professional photography.

The Makery hosted an event to get your creative juices flowing, and sent you home with your very own pressed clay plate! Sips and sweets were also provided while people customized their piece of clay.

John Solo got your foot tappin’ to tunes from the 60’s to now on Allen Street, while Carl Ector & Friends had a jazzy performance on the MLK Plaza Stage.

Wine lovers were excited for the hosting of Happy Valley Vineyard & Winery at Appalachian Outdoors for a Sip & Shop event! Attendees enjoyed samples of Happy Valley’s own wine, and a raffle for the chance to take home your favorite bottle of wine! More wine tasting took place at Lions Pride, who hosted Brookmere Winery where people shopped at their favorite official Penn State retailer while enjoying the area’s finest local wine.

Art lovers also created a light painting only possible by a camera, flashlight, and creativity at Woskob Family Gallery, while sampling libations from Good IntentCider.

And as always, Vamos! Lion Chariot gave lucky passengers a fun filled ride through town getting you from A to B!

Thank you to everyone who participated in First Friday, and to all of the businesses who provided these great events for everyone. Enjoy some of our favorite photos from the event, and we hope to see you for September’s First Friday!
